MUAMMA
Muamma, meaning enigma or mystery, perfectly describes the origins of this Netherlands-based band.
In the summer of 2021 Muamma was formed by Mehmet Uludağ (singer, saz), Aktaş Erdoğan (guitar, ney, duduk, arranger) and Murat Yatmaz (bass, synth bass, arranger) to bring a new, modern approach to Turkish folk music.
When the first gig was booked they invited Maarten Helsloot (keyboards), Arthur Lijten (drums, percussion) and Leah Uijterlinde (vocals, clarinet, percussion) to join them in their musical adventure.
Several rehearsals took place in the run-up to their first performance, planned at the Cutting Edge Festival in The Hague. They discovered that even though it was their first time in this formation, it felt like they had known each other for a long time, both musically and personally. Quite mysterious actually, hence the band name Muamma
Muamma's music spans multiple genres, from deeply traditional Turkish folk to danceable grooves, psychedelic rock and seductive jazz improvisations. Muamma is currently working on the release of a single in 2023.
