In 2012 he released his first album ’SARO’ at Studio Mali with contributions of great artists of the region, including Amadou & Mariam, Mah Bara Soumano and brother Bassekou Kouyate. The album received many great reviews, confirming his excellent songwriting skills and innovative approach of traditional music.
Andra has performed solo and with his own bands in Mali, France, Switzerland, Slovenia and the Netherlands.
He is also one of the three musicians of Deltas: Andra (Tiken Jah Fakoly), Richard Bourreau (Lo'Jo) and Vincent Erdeven (Zenzile) are linked through life and music, sculpting musical pieces that show a wealth of influences. Deltas releases the album 'LIGERIAN BLUES' in 2016 on Super Records / Buda Musique.
Andra Kouyaté invented and built an altogether new instrument: the bass n’goni, a sort of African double bass. This invention allowed him to develop a new way of playing, quite different from the traditional n’goni playing. Another new instrument is his double n'goni, especially constructed to accommodate quick changes in tuning during shows.
